in 2005, Senator McCain tried again to tighten the regulation of Fannie/Freddie Mac, but the Democrats blocked the effort.
[see the Congressional Record, below the fold]
We now learn that Fannie/Freddie Mac gave huge amounts of money to Democrats - Senator Obama ranks at #2 right behind Senator Dodd. - this is money given over the last 10 years [Obama was only receiving money for 3 of those 10 years]
The sub-prime mortgage crisis was fueled by Democrats.
McCain tried to head off the problem but was not able to overcome the bribe money tossed to Democrats.
McCain has a better grip on economics than Obama.

The House [Democrats] introduced new energy legislation late last night. Finally…right? The House also wants to bring the 290-page bill, which can be found here, to the floor today. You think the 435 Members in the House of Representatives are going to meticulously read all 290 pages? A bill that makes fundamental changes to thousands of pages of earlier energy bills as well as the tax code. Please
[no modifications are allowed to this bill, which was introduced last night, this bill is a pile of dung that DEMOCRATS think they can slip by us, while claiming to ACT on the energy crisis, the reality is otherwise]
...
We can’t be that hasty. Just because the bill mentions drilling doesn’t mean it’s a good bill. The “compromise†bill would set a permanent ban on drilling within 50 miles of the coast while allowing states to decide whether they want to drill or not between 50 and 100 miles. But thanks to the Institute for Energy Research, let’s check out where the oil actually is. The bill would:
• Permanently ban access to 97% of the 10.5 billion barrels off the California coast. Then, California gets to decide whether to produce just 3% of its resources.
• Continue the ban on the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, an area with an estimated 3.65 barrels of oil and 22 trillion cubic feet of natural gas
• Institute a first-ever 50 mile ban off the coast of Alaska.

The reason he [McCain] doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.
And the Obama Campaign wants to use McCain's injuries from his captivity in Communist North Vietnam against him.
McCain received those injuries while serving the United States of America, those injuries came while McCain was defending the free people of South Vietnam.
Obama supports oppression.
McCain and Palin support freedom.
McCain and Palin understand the price of freedom. (Sending your own children to a war zone.)

This from a former Hillary and current McCain supporter:
My name is Lynette Long. I am a feminist, a mother, a Democrat and an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter and I am voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin on November 4.
...
...... And yesterday, I understand Senator Obama personally said, “You can put lipstick on a pig, and it’s still a pig.†Well, Mr. Obama, calling girls names is something fifth grade boys do and I don’t want a fifth grader running my country.
I might not agree with Senator McCain and Governor Palin on all the issues, but I don’t agree with any candidate on all the issues. But in Senator McCain and Governor Palin, I find two people with personal integrity and a love of their county --- individuals who not only talk the talk but walk the walk. I can work with that. I will vote for McCain-Palin. In fact, I’ve decided to try to win one vote a day for the McCain-Palin ticket. My new personal mantra is, “A vote a day, keeps Obama away.†I urge all Clinton supporters and McCain supporters to do the same. Thank you.

Like a surfer falling off their board,
the wave crashing over them,
smashing them on the rocks.
WIPE-OUT!!!
From FoxNews.com

Biden: Clinton 'More Qualified'
Democratic VP hopeful says Clinton 'might have been a better pick than me' to be Obama's running mate
• CNN Comes Up Short on Fake Palin Photo
• GOP Women's Group Boycotts 'Oprah' | YOU DECIDE
• S.C. Dem on Palin's Credentials: 'Hasn't Had Abortion'
The major question of the day:
Will Obama try the 'Eagleton Solution' like McGovern did 1972?
or
Will Obama be stuck with Biden?
(Because Hillary is too smart to board a sinking ship.)
Real surfers get back up and ride another wave after 'wipe-outs' just like a real bicyclist rides again after crashing. But Obama seems 'fake' to me.

From the Chicago Daily Observer:
Now that Alaska is front and center in the news again, it is a good time to catch up on a favorite story, The Bridge to Nowhere, using the Washington Post US Congress Votes Database.Senator Tom Coburn, a Republican, proposed shifting the earmark funds to Katrina Relief, and the Democrats opposed the shift --
Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), she eventually killed the project, chosing to spend Federal money on other infrasturcture programs.
However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.
The Democrats wanted people to suffer so they could win.
The Democrats would never risk losing an election, to ease the suffering of American Citizens.

McCain-Palin Ticket Chills Arabs, Muslims
AMMAN — With the U.S. presidential elections just two months away, many Arabs and Muslims are increasingly worried that a victory for another conservative Republican administration will exacerbate the tensions and turbulence that have followed the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
The events and speeches at the Republican Party convention in Minnesota, which endorsed the candidacy of Arizona Senator John McCain and his running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, were given special attention in the Arab media, as commentators voiced fears that a McCain administration would pursue, perhaps more belligerently, the path of the current government.
As a rule, Arab governments in the region prefer to refrain from showing their preferences in U.S. elections, but the media, including the state-controlled TV and press, have made no secret of their desire to see a new leadership in Washington that is run by Democratic presidential candidate Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

Gallop's most recent poll of likely voters
Obama / Biden 44%
McCain / Palin 54%
And this after more TV viewers watched the Republican Convention than the Democratic Convention.
Senator McCain and Governor Palin are on their way to victory. If they continue their smart campaign. They will win, and win easily.
Senator Obama and Senator Biden are flailing. McCain's choice of Palin as his VP, has thoroughly confused Obama and Biden. The Obama bin Biden campaign is headed for defeat.
As Governor Palin convinces more people that she is more qualified to be President than Senator Obama....The McCain/Palin Ticket will gain more and more support.

All of their children were there. Including both of McCain's sons, who are officers in the US Marine Corp and Private Track Palin, US Army.
Both of the Marines stepped to their father's side and gave Track Palin a big welcome.
Now, the media focus is on the young couple, Bristol and Levi. Who received a long greeting from McCain.
I wish the boys could appear in uniform, but the regulation that prevents that is a good one. And I support the rule which sez no political activity in uniform.

Yes, the young father of Bristol's baby, soon to be a member of the Palin family, is joining the campaign. Brave kid.
This is how it should be. You grumble and growl of the mistakes the kids make, then you embrace them, and reinforce the message of your love for your family.

Obama as a punishment.
Who do you want in office?
One who thinks a baby is punishment
or
One who thinks a baby is a blessing.
Choose wisely.

She intends to marry the father.
She intends to raise her own child.
The worst fears of a parent realized, unwed teenage daughter is pregnant.
Her two hard working parents, Sarah and Todd, support her decision to keep the child. So do I.
I also support the decision of Levi, the father of this unborn child, to marry Bristol and help raise his child.
Modern parenting is very difficult.

vs
Senator Barack Obama / Senator Joe Biden
Military experience:
John S McCain, frmr Capt USN - two sons, both of them are US Marines.
Sarah Palin, Commander of Alaskan National Guard - her son is US Army.
Barack Obama, no military experience, daughters are too young.
Joe Biden, no military experience, son is US Army
Edge: McCain - a vet and 3 blue stars over 1 blue star.
Business experience:
John S McCain, none, wife inherited large corporate holdings
Sarah Palin and husband, former commercial fishermen (small businessmen)
Barack Obama, none, wife, none
Joe Biden, none, wife, none.
Edge: Palin - The only one of the four to have actually run a business.
Political experience:
McCain: multiple terms in US House and US Senate
Palin: two terms as mayor, in first term as Governor
Obama: multiple terms in State Senate, in first term in US Senate
Biden: multiple terms in US Senate
Slight edge to McCain/Palin - due to Palin's executive branch experience.
Foreign Policy experience:
McCain - vast
Palin - limited, Alaska borders Canada and Russia, share fisheries with Japan and South Korea, Alaska Air National Guard provides ballistic missle defense for the lower 48 states.
Obama - limited, chairs sub-committee that overseas our NATO commitment, but has never called a meeting.
Biden - vast
Toss-up
Ability to relate to regular folks:
McCain - maybe. He strives to talk with people, and not down to them.
Palin - maybe. She is about to be tested, but she is more of a regular gal than the other 3.
Obama - nope. He talks down to the poeple.
Biden - nope. He talks down to the poeple.
Edge - McCain/Palin

Gov. Palin, who personally opposes gay marriage, put the constitution and law first, and acted to give rights and benefits to the gay community.
Gov. Palin fought against the Republicans to become Governor, and has fought against corruption by Republicans. (CHALLENGE: Name a living Democrat who has fought against corruption by Democrats.)
Judge her by the content of her character, not by her gender.
As opposed to
Senator Barack (I am Black, so you must vote for me) Obama.
Oh yeah, the one trumpted up scandal involving Gov. Palin.
She asked her Public Safety Commissioner to take another state government job because she was not satisified with the job he was doing.
This was not because he retained a wife-beating state trooper. (The beating victim is Sarah Palin's sister.) This occurred before she was Governor. But, of course, Democrats will defend the wife-beater.
